Did you know the Canadian government has set a three-year quota that allows hunters to shoot or club to death almost one million seals? Did you know the Canadian government not only allows the hunt, but actively encourages this inhumane slaughter?



This is a Real Life Matter!

There practically going to WHIP OUT the whole species! Why is Canada allowing—worse, promoting—this annual seal hunt? For years, the public has protested the hunt, in which seal PUPS as young as 12 DAYS OLD are beaten or shot on the ice! And an estimated 40% are SKINNED while they are STILL ALIVE and conscious. But the government just don't care!

Worse yet, once a BABY seal starts to molt even a small part of its white baby coat, the Canadian government allows hunters to beat the pups to death with a club or a large ice-pick! There have even been reports of sealers killing mothers who try to protect their newborn or unweaned pups.



The Canadian government has proven time and again that it is more interested in promoting a commercial seal hunt (a massive slaughter that is nothing like the traditional hunts of the past) than in the humane treatment of seals. When confronted with evidence from an independent, international team of veterinarians that regulations on the treatment of the seals were not being obeyed—that up to 40% of seal pups were being skinned while alive and conscious—the government refused to crack down on sealers.

I'm a Canadian and I'm ashamed that my country allows this to take place. Supposedly the seals are eating too many fish, yet before humans began hunting them there were many more fish AND plenty of seals, living in balance. There is no true justification for this slaughter, aside from greed. At least many nations are no longer buying seal products from Canada.

Many ages ago Canada use to do seal hunts, but they were full of tradition and HONOR to the animals they killed. Todays hunts are a far cry from what they use to be.. Running around with clubs bashing them in the heads, leaving them still alive while they are skinned while a few lucky ones with bashed skulls may scramble to the water only to die, drowning in their own blood.

Its sick and a disgrace. I'm glad many Canadians are also disgusted by these 'hunts' and how even some of the fishing communities banned together to make a stand against the hunt.

Um, while I'm against seal hunting as well. I just wanted to point out some things. It's actually illegal to hunt "white-coats" and it has been banned for over 20 years and it's only a 250,00 per year limit from what I remember instead of the one million over three years. Also, it's not just the Canadian government that does this. Russia and a few other countries allow seal hunting as well.

As I said, I'm against seal hunting as well. But I also don't like misinformation being spread or some being targeted while others are ignored.

It's not misinformation. It was gathered by VIDEO witnessing of them hunting seals as well as government released information. From Canadians themselves whom oppose the hunt cause it is NOTHING like the old traditional seal hunt's of the past.

The government had publicly stated, that as long as the seal is molting it's white coat, it CAN be killed for the hunt.
